Hope Gap on the Sussex coast is the inspiration for all my work.
I paint the ever-changing sea and landscapes above and below the cliffs, and much of my focus is on the effects of erosion.
My largest paintings are of the cliffs themselves. I am fascinated by how the flints, fossils, and imprints of fossils are encased within the chalk and slowly revealed through being worn down by the sea. Above the cliffs I paint the intense and contrasting bright colours of small downland flowers and birds, recording everything in sketchbook form as inspiration for bigger pieces in my home studio. The contrast in my work reflects the contrast of these two distinct environments; above the downlands and below the cliffs.
